History

Based around West Auckland, the Waitemata Riding Club Incorporated was established in 1987 as a relaxed alternative to registered competitions and is proving just as competitive and fun. We provide a supportive, friendly environment for horse people who perhaps don’t want to register with Equestrian Sports New Zealand but who still want to compete, meet new people and learn more about their sport.

Our members have a wide range of interests - from dressage, showhunter, cross-country to Timed trail rides- and we hire different venues for our monthly competitions. We don’t have clubrooms or grounds so we just load our gear into the car and set it up at whichever venue we are using for that event or we hire the competition venues equipment. These competitions are famous for being well organised but also relaxed and informal – no plaiting or jackets required!

Because we’re all at different levels there’s always a friendly, competitive spirit. You can have a good day out, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced rider. At our dressage days you can ride a beginner riding test or a medium one. The beauty of it is, you’ll meet terrific people and hone your skills without the pressure of a formal registered event. We’ve even had barrel racing for the hoons among us - as well as veterinary seminars, dinners and barbeques. So you can be as serious or as light-hearted as you like - our club gives you a new event to aim for and a chance to learn and enjoy.

The annual membership fee is $40 and that includes a monthly newsbrief and a quarterly newsletter called Hoofbeats (with fabulous photos of members doing their thing) to keep you informed of results and upcoming events.

We also utilise our Website and Facebook and keep this up-to-date with information on what's going on in the club, news and results. Most of our members are online and find this a great way to keep up-to-date.

Waitemata Riding Club Incorporated became Incorporated in August 2009.
